A Week In The Life

Just for fun and for a little something different, I’m sharing a little week in the life. Just a snapshot each day of what our week looked like from the last week of July/ beginning of August.

So here it is…

Library day! We joined the summer reading program at our local library and we were able to cash in on the “half-way there” prize! Of course we also checked out more books. ; )

A little afternoon walk. I love this view of the creek.

A hot air balloon on an early Monday morning. Not something we see everyday!

I don’t typically let my dog up on our bed, but I wasn’t ready to get up yet so I let our Sadie girl cuddle up.

My favorite summer work outfit.

Summer sunsets are the best!

Taekwondo day for our son. It’s been fun to see him learn so much.

A little birthday celebration at Olive Garden! Cheers to 39!

Happy August everyone! I hope you all are doing well and enjoying your summer!

Meet Sadie!

I was adamant we were not going to get another dog. Until one day…

It was Mother’s Day. We went to church and I planned on doing a very motherly chore of organizing my “baby” girl’s clothes that afternoon. On the way home from church my husband mentioned “Hey! Let’s go to the animal shelter!”, with my son agreeing in excitement.

This wasn’t completely out of the blue. We sometimes alternated saying “let’s go to the shelter!”, but one of us (usually me), would decide against it. This time, however, this time felt special. Not to mention organizing my daughter’s clothes felt completely unappealing.

I made my family promise me they weren’t going to be upset when I said no to getting a new dog. Once agreements were in place we were on our way.

At the animal shelter we noticed there was a meet and greet room just before the hall that leads to the animals. Sitting inside, all alone, happened to be a cute, adorable, black and white 3 month old puppy.

We were for sure not going to get a puppy. I was already trying to potty train my little girl and I didn’t want to have to potty train two at the same time. Regardless, since we were there just to look, I told my kids it was ok to go in and play with her a little.

What I wasn’t expecting, is my son who gets slightly nervous when animals jump, to be completely okay with her. This puppy proceeded to say “hi” to all of us and then came over and sat in my lap and put her face next to mine. Oh dear…my heart melted.

We eventually left to see the other dogs and then decided it was time to go home. Just before leaving the shelter, I couldn’t stop myself from going in to love on this little puppy just one more time. On the way out I looked at my husband and told him that it was actually really hard to say no to her.

No sooner than we got home and closed the door, everything in me felt like we had to go back and get her. My family was already hooked on her and they were no help in trying to talk me out of it. For one last effort, I called my sister, who I knew for sure would talk me out of it. After she listened to me tell her all about this puppy, what I wasn’t expecting was her to actually do the opposite. Not even an hour later and we were driving ourselves back to the shelter.

We came home with our Sadie.

Getting Through The Sickies

Last month held our annual “let’s all get sick” month.   I was hoping we would somehow skip this trend but the month started off strong with strep throat for both of my littles.  Next in line was my husband, and while he didn’t have strep throat, he did have a nasty cold.  Of course I was next and got the lovely cold my husband had.  Thankfully it knocked us down one at a time instead of all at once.

In honor of this lovely event and because the Fall season is quickly approaching, I am sharing my go-to tips for getting through the cold sickies.

There is nothing more soothing to me than a hot cup of green tea and honey when I have a cold. It warms my throat and eases body aches. It’s usually my first go-to step when I feel like I’m coming down with something as the antioxidants also help.

I looove relaxing baths. While it won’t cure your cold, it definitely eases your body and clears congestion. If I’m feeling extra congested I tend to choose a shower over a bath as the extra steam can help clear the sinuses and pressure.

If your sinuses are giving you extra grief, a warm compress with a washcloth (or whatever you have available) can help ease the pressure.

I find this especially helpful when you have a cough, but it also helps with congestion. We have this one. I love the little compartment for the VapoPads!

Chicken noodle soup for the win here! The more homemade the better, but there is nothing wrong with canned store brand either. Sometimes healthy food just doesn’t sound good when I’m sick and I crave the cozy, carbs of comfort food, but it’s not always the best option. Fruit and vegetables high in vitamin C are really key, even if all you can manage is orange juice.

Really, this is a bonus.  It does so much good for you and helps our bodies get through it.  However, I know that life circumstances, such as having small children or other life responsibilities can get in the way of this.  I’ve been there when rest just wasn’t possible and seeing advice like this would just make me frustrated.  So if that’s you, I completely understand and hugs to you…it will still be ok.

I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy!

A Fresh Perspective

Just as a heads up, I’m not sure if this post will be of interest to anyone else, but I just want to document as a reminder that God hears, listens, and speaks.

As I briefly mentioned in my last post, April was a really difficult month.  I had been struggling a lot from a situation that had left me blindsided and hurt (I realize I’m being cryptic about what actually happened, but it’s sensitive).  Thankfully between time, prayer, and a fresh perspective, I’ve finally been able to move forward.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One morning I had gotten up expecting to have another really hard day.  As I walked out the door of my bedroom, the following verse sounded in my head loud and clear…
“This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it”.
As I slowly walked up the stairs I prayed “You’re right Lord, you did make this day and I will rejoice and be glad in it, regardless of how I feel.” I certainly didn’t want to be glad, but none the less, He did make this day and I could be thankful for life itself, regardless of my circumstances.  I took a shower and repeated the verse a couple more times, willing myself to have a better attitude about the day ahead.
As I continued getting ready for work I listened to the devotional on the YouVersion app. It was only about 2 minutes long but what was said was exactly everything I needed to hear. It was on Mathew 20:28:
“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as ransom for many”
It’s been a couple weeks since I listened to the devotional, but the point has stayed with me – it’s all about humility. In the big picture, our occupation, job status, title, etc. doesn’t matter. We are called to love others and to serve.
It was a lightbulb moment, a clear calling, and a good reminder of our purpose and the importance of humility.
Thankfully the past month is over, time has healed some of the hurt, and things have worked itself out, and through it all, God was right there.
To all that are struggling, know you are loved and not alone.
Much love to you all,
Cami
Sometimes Breaks are Necessary
I’ve been a little absent and inconsistent with my blog lately. For as good as my intentions are to keep up with my once a week posting schedule it’s been pretty hard to do. I actually enjoy writing during my lunch breaks at work but I’ve been so busy that my breaks are often cut short or I’m too mentally drained to put anything down on paper…I guess screen in this case, hehe.  Sometimes it’s necessary to cut back in some areas so we can be successful in others.
We’re gearing up for the holidays at work and with that comes tons of logo apparel ordering and holiday party RSVP’s, not to mention the usual workflow which has increased as well.  I’m definitely not complaining, just explaining.
All this to say I am not giving up on my blog, just needing to take a small break until I can get through this month. Thanks for bearing with me on this.  I will back in the next couple weeks!
Much Love,
Cami
