When Self-Care Looks A Little Different

I had an “ah-ha!” type of moment a few weeks ago. This really isn’t very profound, but I wanted to share my thoughts.

I don’t know about you, but when I think of self-care I think of mani/pedi’s, a massage, a bubble bath by candlelight, or even just curling up in a blanket with a book.

If I’m being honest, most days, even on weekends, I don’t have that kind of time, money, and/or energy. Even taking time to pluck my eyebrows is the. biggest. chore. I often worry that I’m “letting myself go” as I swore to my younger self that I would never do. Then I start to feel shame that I’m letting myself down.

Then one day I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw a post from a friend that made me stop to think. She had two pictures – one showed a book with a small glass of wine, and the second showed a picture of her laundry at a laundry mat. One of her hashtags read “#selflovecomesinmanyforms”. Suddenly I felt overwhelming relief.

Somehow I had tied self-care with all things luxurious. That, because I don’t have the money for a massage, or that I’m not taking the time to paint my nails, that maybe I’m not taking care of myself as well as I should.

There was freedom in realizing that doing laundry, and making sure my house is vacuumed, and getting everything ready for the week ahead is, often times, exactly the self-care I need.

I’m not saying that quality “me time” isn’t important. While I do believe I could should step up my eyebrow plucking game and also take the time to do something I truly enjoy, it was just a nice reminder that one form of self-care can be just as important as another.

Hello Again!!

I blinked and a year passed.

They say time goes by even faster after having kids (just one in my case), and it couldn’t be more true.  I’m so happy to be back in the blog world!

So let me reintroduce myself!

About me!

My name is Cami!  I’m a wife and mom from Washington state.

I love to travel and I often plan virtual vacations just for the heck of it.  I love photography but forget to actually take pictures all the time.  And, of course, I love reading and watching blogs and vlogs.

Moving on…

I am an administrative assistant and work full-time outside the home.

I spend most of my time playing with my little boy and trying to keep up with housework (ha. ha.).

Family

My husband and I have been married since 2008!  We met at a conference center where we worked in Cannon Beach, OR.

After being introduced, we just kept hanging out together.  Before we knew it, we were official “boyfriend and girlfriend”.  2 years later we got engaged.  7 months later we were married, and *bam!*, just like that it’s been 11 years.

We have since moved to Washington state and now have this little guy right here.

Gryffin, just turned 2 years old this past March!  So far he is our only baby (aside from our fur baby).  He’s rather shy at first, but also has been known to wave and loudly say hi to every single person he sees in the store and  parking lot.

This is Kahlua – the above referenced fur baby.

We adopted her from an animal shelter after we were married for 2 years.  This girl gave us a run for our money (oh, the stories we have) but she has turned into the sweetest dog.  She took a while to warm up to Gryffin, but she’s come a long way!

The Blog

So, what’s this blog about?  Well, it’s about life and sharing it with all of you!

Work life, home life, mom life – it’s all overwhelming!  I plan on sharing my routines, advice, the good days, the bad days, and everything in between.

I love the “What’s in my bag?” posts, and seeing what’s on your cleaning list, and what you do on the weekends.  This is my place to share it all!

Welcome to my little corner of the world!

Currently – May Edition

Wow, this month has been a roller coaster!  Work has been more stressful than ever before, so by the time I get home I am soooo done.  At least the weekends have been nice and relaxing for the most part.

So here’s what I’ve been up to this month.

Currently Watching

Dancing with the Stars.  Nyle Dimarco, one of the contestanst who happens to be deaf, has completely amazed me.  Although I haven’t watched every week from the beginning, it’s been a pretty good season over all.

We are also watching Arrow and The Flash, although, I’m not into these shows too much anymore. I typically scan Facebook and browse the internet while half paying attention.

As far as Alias goes – we had to stop.  It was just too painful.  I hate not finishing something, but there was just so much to pick apart in that show.  I felt the only reason why it stayed on for so long was because in every episode someone took their clothes off.  If someone can tell me the show gets better in seasons 4 & 5 we might reconsider – otherwise it’s just not worth it.

Currently Reading

“Life Management for Busy Women: Living Out God’s Plan with Passion & Purpose” by Elizabeth George.  Done!!!  I give it 3 stars.  Nothing too amazing, but I don’t regret reading it.  I will probably write a short post on it.

Now to finish Harry Potter…

Currently Making/Baking

Ummm….unfortunately I have nothing exciting this month that I’ve made or baked.  Just the typical weeknight recipes.  Hopefully next month I’ll have something worth posting about. :)

Current Obsession

Ipsy!  You can check it out here!  I had been hearing a lot about it lately and since I came down with a recent makeup obsession I decided to give it a try.  After having an incredibly stressful work week, coming home to find a bright pink package sitting in my mail box couldn’t have been a better welcome-home gift on Friday night.  Inside was a cute little makeup bag (which is included in every month’s subscription package) and 5 little (some not so little!) products.  For $10, I felt it was totally worth it.  I plan to write a post on this as well. :)

So that’s that!   This weekend is totally drizzly and stormy and I am loving it!  It’s the perfect weather to get stuff done around the house…or to just sit and read. ;)

Oh yeah!  And we might go couch shopping later.  We currently have a black leather couch (not my favorite), but it’s been kinda falling apart and becoming uncomfortable to sit in.  So we’ll see what we can find, with Memorial weekend coming up we’re really hoping to find some awesome deals!

Anyway…Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!  Have a happy Saturday!

Summer Reading List 2015

I’m a little behind on my summer reading list this year, but since we’re still in June I think I’m good.  : )

Here goes my summer reading list.

1. The Harry Potter Series. – And there you have it my dears!  Haha, since there are so many books in the series I’m assuming it’s going to take me all summer long and maybe then some.  (and yes, I know I’m an adult, but I’ve seen the movies so many times that it’s just time I read the books.  Everyone knows that books are better than the movies.  ; )

~ But don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging with just one series on my list, here are some others I’m including.  These are in no particular order.

2. The Language of Flowers – by Vanessa Diffenbaugh

4. The Bailey Flanigan Series – by Karen Kingsbury. I’ve read book 1, but I have yet to read the rest

3. My Life in France – by Julia Child

5. You Learn by Living – by Eleanor Roosevelt

There are more books on my list but I’m going to stick with this for now and probably do a follow up in fall.

Anywho, speaking of reading, I think that’s what I’m going to do now.

**Goodnight!**

Today’s Post Brought to You by…

Today’s post is brought to you by Acts 4:13.  This is going to be a  short one, but I thought I would share something that stuck out to me during my quiet time this morning.

Acts 4:13 (ESV)  “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished.  And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”

And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”  Wow.

That is my prayer.  That I will have such a relationship with Jesus that people can tell, just by being around me, that I’ve been with Him.

How does that work exactly?  I think it’s one of those things that the more time you spend with someone the more traits you pick up from them.  It doesn’t really have anything to do with us, it has everything to do with Jesus and the time spent with Him in prayer and reading His word.

There’s a saying that says you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with, so choose wisely.  So let’s make Jesus one of those “people”.  Let Him transform your life, just by spending time with Him.
