Wait, it’s April?! Ha, just kidding…kind of. I actually had tried really hard to get this post up last night but the site has been glitchy for me lately (side note, if the pictures are not centered, I tried my best to fix it). But hey, better late than never!

Anyway, this year is starting to feel like a bad dream. I refuse to let this post be a downer though, so I will do my best to keep it light and talk about the happy things of the last month. :)

First of all, Gryffin turned 3 years old!!! We had planned on having his first big birthday party with friends but we will have to reschedule. We ended up getting him 3 balloons (paw patrol, spider man, and a cupcake) and a mini birthday cake. I’m sad we couldn’t have a real birthday party for him but I’m glad we were able to make it a little special. Thank goodness he’s 3 and didn’t quite know what all he was missing yet.

Second, I got to start working from home this past month! Granted, not exactly under the circumstances I was hoping for. It’s definitely made me realize I’ve taken some things in life for granted. I look forward to the day everything can go back to normal…I realize that could be a while and I’m not quite sure things are going to exactly the same again in some respects.

The month also ended with some crazy weather. lots of rain, hail, snow, heavier snow, sunshine, and an earthquake, all in one day. I was sitting down and suddenly felt dizzy and thought my vertigo was back. I looked up and saw the door was swaying, and the cabinet door, and the blinds. I was so relieved it was only an earthquake haha. But seriously, this month has been nuts.

Aside from the obvious craziness that we’re all dealing with, here’s what we’ve been up to this past month…

Currently Watching

The Office.

Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and B.J. Novak in The Office (2005)

I’m leaving this one up here since I’m still watching an episode here and there.

Also, I’ve started watching the news lately. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but it feels like the right thing to do. It has also led me to watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune…

My mom sent me the link to her recipe and I’m so glad she did! I usually stick to what I know and like, but by her suggestion I decided to give it a go. So glad I did! Super easy with minimal ingredients and they taste delicious. I will definitely be making these again. :)

Current Favorite

Gryffin!

Yes, he’s always my favorite but he gets a special shout out this month because my baby turned 3! He is seriously the best thing that ever happened to us. He has the best imagination and loves to laugh. Kind, funny and smart – we are seriously blessed. We love you our little Gryffin!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, these were the highlights of the last month. These are really challenging times we’re facing and my heart hurts for many of you. I’m thankful we’re not alone in all of this – we’re in it all together.
Much love to you all,
Cami
Evening Routine (Partial Day in the Life)
Now that my life feels consumed by our new schedule, I thought I would share my daily routines that help me keep up with it all. I love “day in the life” posts, so here’s a little mini half version of mine.
After having a baby, I always wondered how other full-time working moms handled life. How do they get it all done? How do they balance it all? How do they keep from going crazy? This is going to sound dramatic, but I was afraid I was going to absolutely hate life and/or die, if not from the heartbreak from leaving my baby, then from sheer exhaustion of trying to do it all.
I had to take it one day and one week at a time. Every day got a little easier and slowly, but surely, I finally developed a routine and we sunk into a new normal. And guess what…I didn’t (and don’t) hate life. :)
Routines help make sanity possible.
While I don’t have a nursing baby now, I do have a different kind of challenge where I have an active toddler and my husband, who is now going to school full-time and works graveyard, isn’t able to help out nearly as much. All I can say is, preparation is key!
For a quick glance, I have a short run down of my routine. Feel free to keep scrolling for the full detail of my evening, from the moment I get off work to the time I go to bed.
Here’s the quick run down:
  • 5:00 – 5:30: Get off work and pick up Gryffin from daycare
  • 5:45-6:00: Get mail / eat snack
  • 6:00-6:45: 30 minute work out/warm dinner (I batch cook on the Sunday so I don’t have to cook nearly as much during the week. Funny story – I always hated the thought of batch cooking and now I can’t imagine doing it any other way!)/Gryffin watches a show/plays while I work out
  • 6:45 – 7:30: Eat dinner (Gryffin takes forever to eat!)
  • 7:30: Wake Mikey up
  • 7:30 – 7:45: Playtime with Gryffin until bath time
  • 7:45 – 8:15: Gryffin’s bath and bedtime routine
  • 8:15: Gryffin’s bedtime (more on this below)
  • 9:30 – 10:00: Wash dishes/ pack lunch/ pick out clothes and shoes for next day/ jammies/wash face/brush teeth, etc.
  • 10:00 – 10:30: Quiet time (read bible, journal, pray)
  • 10:30: lights out
**Now for the long explanation with all the juicy details!
5:00 – 5:45/6:00
Get off work and go pick Gryffin up. I have a 20-30 minute commute from work to daycare and we’re usually home around 5:45 (sometimes 6:00 if I stay and talk at daycare).
I love that it’s light when I get off work now!
While I don’t like the drive time (I know, I’m lucky compared to some of you!), I find that it at least gives me time to decompress after work. I usually listen to a podcast on my way home. My go-to podcasts are “Happier” with Gretchen Rubin and “What Should I Read Next” with Anne Bogel.
I’ve been a bit behind on the Happier podcast
5:45 – 6:00
Both Gryffin and I are pretty hungry by the time we get home, so we’ll eat a snack to hold us over until dinner. Usually I’ll make a half peanut butter and jelly sandwich or we just have some crackers.
During snack time we usually sit together and I ask Gryffin how his day was and just hang out with each other.
Being silly :P
6:00 – 6:30
I let Gryffin watch a show during this time – usually Blippi or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. For me, this part varies a little depending on what day it is.
I have started incorporating workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if it’s one of those days, I will start heating up dinner and workout while it cooks or I’ll throw it together after I’m done working out.
I got some new dvd workouts over Christmas. I switch my workouts between these, Blogilates, and Kathryn Morgan’s
ballet barre’s
If it’s not a workout night, I save the more time-consuming meals for those days and I sit and play with Gryffin for a little bit.
6:45 – 7:30 (sometimes earlier)
Taco night! He knows how to eat those olives right ;)
P.S. Don’t mind his crazy hair.
Dinner time. Anyone else out there have toddlers that take FOREVER to eat?? Gryffin can take up to 45 minutes sometimes. It’s also hard to know when he’s done because he will say “all done” and then immediately start shoveling more food in his mouth the second I go to wipe his hands *sigh*.
Anyway, dinner time ends usually anywhere between 7:15-7:30
7:30 – Wake Mikey Up (sometimes earlier, it just depends)
7:30 – 7:45
Dirty Kitchen / Clean Kitchen
Clean up the kitchen while Gryffin plays. Sometimes I’ll wait to clean the kitchen after Gryffin goes down to bed, but it’s always nice when I get it done early.
7:45 – 8:15
Gryffin’s bedtime routine. Bath, jammies, brush teeth, pick up toys, read a book. Pretty simple.
8:15 – 9:30
Gryffin goes down to bed around 8:15. This part of my night also varies depending on if I’m the one putting Gryffin down to bed. He is very afraid of the dark and has separation anxiety, so bedtime is rough and we usually have to stay with him until he falls asleep (there’s no crying it out, because he gets so worked up that he throws up). Unfortunately he can take forever to fall asleep.
If Mikey’s the one putting Gryffin to bed, I’m up and usually watching a show. Lately I’ve been watching either The Office, or When Calls The Heart on Netflix.
9:30 – 10:00
This is when I start getting ready for bed and Mikey gets ready and goes to work. I wash my face, get my jammies on, pick out my clothes for the next day, and get my lunch ready to go.
I keep my products pretty simple and I’m perfectly satisfied with drugstore brands. The bottle that looks like olive oil is actually jojoba oil. I use it in place of eye cream. It keeps the eye area moisturized and I feel like it helps with dark circles as well.
I am not a morning person at all, so I would much rather do it all at night rather than the morning.
10:00 – 10:30
Quiet time. I do my best to head downstairs right at 10:00 and read my Bible, but occasionally the above routine might take me a bit longer or I get sidetracked with my phone and start scrolling through social media. I’m working on being better disciplined, but for the most part I’m able to stick with this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So that’s what our evenings look like. I plan on also do a really short morning routine, and a weekend or Sunday routine as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Much Love,

Cami

Currently February 2020

Sooo…I wasn’t expecting to be MIA in January, but this year has been off to a rough, rough start. A new schedule to adjust to, my sister-in-law’s unexpected passing, a funeral, followed by weeks of vertigo. It feels as though January chewed us up and spit us out. I am so very thankful we are in a new month. Things are finally starting to feel a little more stable and getting back to “normal”. Although, I say that, but as I’m about to ready to post this, I’ve been up all night with a sick kiddo with a stomach virus…ha.

I really don’t have much to add between the above paragraph and the below list so I’m going to just jump in here!

Here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

Currently Watching

The Office.

Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and B.J. Novak in The Office (2005)

I watch an episode here and there when I have some downtime and could use the comic relief. I know it’s just a show, but I love Jim and Pam.

As for Gryffin, he now LOVES Toy Story, especially Toy Story 3. I probably have been letting him watch a little more tv than I should the past month, so I plan on cutting him back a bit.

Finished! – Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World that Loves to Be Noticed by Sara Hagerty

I had to check it out 3 times, but I am finally finished! I have a hard time putting my feelings into words on this book. At first I just had a hard time relating to the author, our stories and personalities are just different, but the things she had to say were true and in some ways eye opening. She really drove home that our value and what we do when no one is looking matters…and it matters to God and God alone – He is the only one we need to worry about pleasing.

I really admire how she handles her kids situations and challenges that have come along the way. There are certain chapters I would like to re-read just because I think I could get even more out of them, so I might even check it out again to re-read some of it.

I haven’t picked up another book yet. I really would like a good fiction that I can’t put down, but I’ve become so darn picky these days that it’s hard to find one I can get into. I used to love “The Baby-Sitter’s Club” in grade school and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” in high school, but my gosh, as an adult I haven’t found a series I’ve been able to get hooked on. Any recommendations (that are clean)??

Currently Making/Baking

Now that Mikey is going to school full time and working I am doing almost all the cooking, which is totally fine, but it makes me realize how spoiled I was! One of my new favorite recipes has been this Ninja Foodi Pineapple Chicken.

pressure cooker pineapple chicken

It does takes more prep than I would like (mostly because I have to cut the chicken into pieces), but the cook time goes really fast. It tastes really good and it makes a lot, which is perfect because we love leftovers. Plus, Gryffin likes it a lot, so it’s win, win, win. :)

Current Favorite (Formerly “Obsession”)

My Planner!! This is the Legend Planner and I’m in love with it! I usually go with the Happy Planner, but I decided to try something different and I’m so glad I did. It’s small and yet has just enough room for everything I need. It’s great for goal setting, it has a full calendar view and a detailed weekly planner. There is plenty of space to write out my daily to-do lists and includes space to write out weekly goals as well. It’s the planner I never knew I needed in my life.

I do have more posts planned, but I just need some time as we continue to adjust and deal with what life is throwing at us. I hope you all are having a wonderful February and happy belated Valentines day!

Currently – December 2019

It’s hard to believe we are at the end of the month and end of the year no less. I have another post coming as a re-cap of the year, but let’s just say there are a lot of mixed feelings with this year ending.

This past month has been both chaotic and quiet. Work was chaotic…completely chaotic. Home life felt pretty quiet. For once in our life we were actually ahead of the game for Christmas shopping (thank you Amazon!). I was even in the mood to bake a couple batches of cookies, which is pretty rare. We also welcomed a new little baby nephew to our family. I was so excited to finally meet him last week! I’ve had my share of baby snuggles, which makes me one happy auntie. Christmas came and it’s suddenly over, just like that.

Anyway…here’s what we’ve been up to this month.

Currently Watching

I think we’ve watched a bit of everything this month! Amazon Prime had a Hallmark quality Christmas movie, “Snowed-Inn Christmas”, which I was not at all disappointed to watch. Of course there is a big cheese factor to these Santa Christmas movies, but it was kinda cute.

On Disney Plus, Mikey and I are watching “The Mandalorian” and Gryffin watched Mickey Mouse’s “Once Upon a Christmas” and “Twice Upon a Christmas” a couple times.

Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World that Loves to Be Noticed by Sara Hagerty

I’m still not done with this one. This is a book that I just can’t listen to for hours at a time because I really want what she’s saying to sink in. I’ve had to re-check it out twice and I’m pretty sure I might have to make it 3 times, but I’m getting there.

Currently Making/Baking

Ooooh I have been making and baking up a storm! Well…a storm for me might be more like a sprinkle to others.

For cookies, I made these Andes Mint Cookies by Six Sisters Stuff

PC: Six Sister Stuff

I found this recipe via Pinterest years ago and I’ve made them almost every year since. It’s probably the easiest cookie recipe ever. They are so soft and minty and yuummmy.

I also made these Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies by Sally’s Baking Addiction

PC: Sally’s Baking Addiction

I have talked about these cookies a few times on my blog because they are just so darn good! If you love pumpkin and love chocolate, then goooo make these cookies!

In the none-sweet world, I have also made Pozole. I use a recipe that was handed down from a friend – my favorite kind of recipe! We recently won a Ninja Foodie and it’s quickly becoming my best friend. I used it on this recipe and it turned out so, so good! It’s on my to-do list to take a pic and put the recipe on my blog. It’s rich and spicy in flavor and delicious!

Current Obsession

I actually don’t have anything to share this month here. My focus has been on family and spending time with them…everything else has faded in the background and I’m definitely more than okay with that.

I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the rest of the month…all 2 days of it! :)

Cami

My Thoughts and Struggle with Self-Discipline

“Adulting is hard”. We’ve all heard the phrase. You know…cause it’s a problem for us “millennials”. But really, self-discipline and mounting responsibility is difficult for all of us at any age.

Some people are really great with routines and schedules and have no problem sticking to them, but if you’re like me, while the idea sounds great and wonderful, creating and maintaining those habits is a hard task.

After struggling for the past couple weeks trying to get to bed on time, wake up on time, pick up the house, workout, etc., it didn’t take long for me to realize that I have an awful case of the “I don’t wanna’s” – I don’t wanna workout, I don’t wanna clean the house, I don’t wanna get up…

In the moment, I don’t realize my adult self is acting like a 2 year old. I have become an expert at coming up with logical reasons and excuses to do not the responsible thing.

I figured after becoming a mom that I would be immune to behavior like this. Clearly that is not the case and in some ways it’s gotten worse. I’m incredibly embarrassed to admit this.

My drive is lacking these days. I think part of it is that I’m in a crazy cycle. I stay up late and I wake up tired. I manage to make it through the day only to find that the struggle continues on and on, every day, and every night.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on how I can break this cycle and I’ve come up with a small plan of action and I think it can be applicable to many situations. Here it is…

~ Start Small

Focus on the one thing that is the most important and go from there.

For me, my #1 priority is going to bed on time and waking up on time. The rest can come later.

~ Be Intentional

You have to think, plan, and take action for what you want to acheive.

This means I have to think and plan around my bedtime. If I want my light out at 10:00 then I better get ready for bed well before 9:59.

~ Sheer Determination

You have to make to make up your mind, right here and right now, that you’re going to _____ (fill in the blank)

I could do everything leading up to my bedtime, but when it comes down to it, I’m still faced with a choice – am I going to shut off light or am I going to say “just 5 more minutes”? I need that sheer determination that I will do this, even if I don’t feel like it.

~ Don’t give up

This is what makes it a routine and helps you do this each and every day. Try, try, and try again until it sticks.

~ Have an Accountability Partner or Mentor

Having someone come along aside you and encourage you is huge! Maybe you know someone else who is struggling with the same problem and you can hold each other accountable- or better yet, maybe you know someone who is really great at achieving what you’re struggling with and is able to help coach you through it.

~ Prayer

I don’t know about you, but I don’t always include God with the small and seemingly insignificant parts of my life. I got to thinking though, God CARES about the small and insignificant parts of our lives. God is in the details both big and small and he wants to be involved with all that we do, not just in the really important parts. Definitely commit it to Him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you struggle with your daily tasks and routines, you’re not alone. I would love to know your thoughts on the issues of adulthood and the struggle of responsibility.
Much Love,
Cami
